Vitamins and supplements may not be the first thing you think of when you try to improve your heart health, but there's growing evidence that maybe you should. Some supplements such as folic acid are proving to have a positive effect in reducing your risk of heart disease. Vitamins C and E are also on the "may be a good idea" list. Even aspirin, long used to relieve headaches and fever, is known to have a positive effect in very small doses.
But it's just as important to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you're already taking vitamins or supplements. Some of these products can interfere with how your medications work or they may increase the risk of side effects.
